Here's a couple of mates hanging out on their stumps. They're probably wondering what their old tree hangout is being manufactured into at the local furniture factory.
I'm exhibiting with Sarah-Jane Cook in August as part of the 7 Rooms event. Here's an example of some of her ceramics which I am totally loving right now. I met Sarah-Jane last year when I worked for her company Active Arts teaching art to youngsters. Coincidentally we had both booked tickets to fly to Greece in May that year. We eventually caught up afterwards and discussed the excellent ceramic work in Greece and how influential the trip was. I'm loving these little pieces that Sarah-Jane is making at the moment. Take a look at her website here : http://roustaboutart.wordpress.com/
I made a set of charms to sell at Gorgeous Festival last year. Also kept a few for family gifts at xmas time. I hope they bring good luck to them.
These are made using paper clay, imprinting a wood cut stamp and then sanding the edges down to smooth them.
I was recently a part of Espionage Gallery's "Ingrained" exhibition. This was a group show that challenged artists to make a feature of wood in the exhibition pieces they submitted. I initially started mucking about with these fishy little pieces but they are still sitting around the studio incomplete. I became sidetracked with a simple but elegant sculptural piece featuring a section of a wild olive tree and a white clay bird form.
