Here's a photo of my son Oscar when we were in the mixing studio at Mixmasters. I think he was overwhelmed by the gadgetry and was hoping to shift a few sliders and turn some dials. Looks like that's Andy Roberts in the background. After buying my first DSLR camera, Andy Roberts was the first musician I made a clip for. Prior to that I was mostly experimenting with stop motion using a Nikon D40. The clip "Layers" was a bit of stop motion and some regular video but as an experiment I projected it onto the wall of my lounge room and re-filmed it to see what resulted.

Thanks Alex Kwong for the photograph. This is a detail photograph of a fan I made for the Uchiwa Fan exhibition and fundraiser at Espionage Gallery.
Started filming my first hip hop music video today. We're doing a scene where the subject is standing over a burning 44 gallon drum fire, but had to simulate the fire in the studio without the fire. Cut a bunch of holes in a sheet of black card and moved it in front of a spotlight. Because of the depth of field it blurs out in the background and gives the effect of a burning fire. Cool stuff
I made a set of charms to sell at Gorgeous Festival last year. Also kept a few for family gifts at xmas time. I hope they bring good luck to them.
These are made using paper clay, imprinting a wood cut stamp and then sanding the edges down to smooth them. Rip It Up has featured a music video I made for Surviving Sharks. Check out the article here :
http://www.ripitup.com.au/music/article/local-trio-surviving-sharks-release-new-clip When I was in Malta last year I had the chance to spend a day swimming at the Blue Lagoon. The water was so clear and the snorkeling was amazing because of it. So I came home to the start of winter in Australia and wanted to bring some of the great vibes back. Outside the kitchen window at our house there was a brick wall just staring at us each morning, so I decided to paint it. At the bottom of the piece I added "Going to Gozo" in text. If I was a fish and I had a choice I would swim there.
I've been working on a large canvas once a week down at Forge Creative Warehouse at Port Adelaide. It's good to have a long term piece that you chip away at slowly and have plenty of time in between to digest what you are actualyl doing. This piece is all experiment. I keep layering it up, putting down new colours and applying the paint in different ways each time.
What do you think of this "collaborative" piece? I took part by adding the sculpted head and the stenciled birdy, not sure who did the rest. Also not sure who has the head now since it went walking after being peeled from the wall.
Things have been really busy and I haven't updated on my news page for a while. After having a studio in Queenstown for a year I've moved to Largs North right near the beach. I'm still working at Forge Warehouse as events and gallery coordinator and working a fair bit on music videos too, but I have to admit I have been enjoyed the summer weather a bit too much and spent more time at the beach swimming with my son than spending time in the studio.
It's cooling down now though, so I've started painting again. Sculpture seems to be less interesting to me at the moment and I've been focusing on completing a number of incomplete canvases and commission work. There should be some new photos in a few weeks. Until then... Thanks to all the people who visited my little gallery at the Gorgeous Festival. Thankyou for admiring and buying my work, I hope you enjoy it.
In between painting and sculpting I like to get behind the camera. In various capacities I've written, directed and produced music videos for several bands. A few months ago I entered the video "Gallantry" into the festival's music video competition. On the weekend at the Gala ceremony the video was awarded "Best Music Video, Australian". A lot of very helpful people gave support both in front and behind the camera, so thank you to everyone!
Everything is looking good so far for Mr. and Mrs. Owl. Two more firings and they'll be off to The Gallery's garden bar in the sky. Next time you are on Waymouth Street you can say hello. From the video can you tell which is the male and which is the female?
Port Adelaide has a new creative space, with the official opening said to be the 7th of December. It's a combination of versatile spaces including a gallery and set of photographic studios.
